American presidential candidate supports Bitcoin mining
As the U.S. presidential elections approach, Donald Trump is increasingly showing interest in Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. After starting to accept Bitcoin donations for his campaign, he has now focused his attention on mining.
On Wednesday, he met with David Bailey, the head of Bitcoin Magazine, and several prominent American Bitcoin miners. Among the attendees were representatives from leading mining companies such as CleanSpark, Riot Platforms, Marathon Digital, and others. During the meeting, Trump pledged his support for Bitcoin mining both in the state of Washington and across the entire USA. He later wrote on his social network, Truth Social, that he wants "all remaining Bitcoins to be mined in the USA."
Trump's stance is bolstered by the Biden administration's adversarial attitude toward cryptocurrencies, as well as the fact that there are reportedly over 50 million Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency holders in the United States. This represents a significant voter base.
You can now buy Bitcoin at Brazil's largest Bank
Itaú Unibanco, the largest bank in Brazil and all of Latin America, has begun offering Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency trading to its more than 60 million customers. After successfully testing this service with selected clients since December 2023, the bank's investment app now allows all clients to buy and sell Bitcoin and Ethereum.
Guto Antunes, head of digital assets at Itaú, stated that this move was in response to strong user demand for Bitcoin and cryptocurrency services. Although he did not disclose the exact number of users, he mentioned that the app has already been downloaded more than 3.5 million times.
Experts believe that Itaú's launch of this service marks a significant milestone in the financial mainstream of one of Latin America's largest economies. The acceptance of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies by a conservatively regulated institution like Itaú confirms that Bitcoin is an innovation that is here to stay.
VanEck Launches first spot Bitcoin ETF on Australia's largest stock exchange
Australia joins the US and Hong Kong in launching its first spot Bitcoin ETF on its main stock exchange.
VanEck's spot Bitcoin ETF (VBTC) has officially launched on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX), Australia's largest stock market. This ETF was approved earlier this week and is now available for trading, providing Australian investors with a simplified and secure way to gain exposure to Bitcoin.
However, VanEck was not the first in Australia. The competing Monochrome Bitcoin ETF (IBTC) has been trading on the smaller Cboe Australia exchange since June 4. So far, it has purchased over 54 Bitcoins worth AUD 5.3 million.
The introduction of the first spot Bitcoin ETF on ASX is another step towards enabling investors to invest in cryptocurrencies more easily and securely through traditional stock exchanges, which could further support the expansion of the cryptocurrency market in Australia.
