Asset management giant invests in BTC
In recent months, the investment world's attention has increasingly turned to the bitcoin ETF market, and a new player is emerging on the scene, attracting attention with significant investments. Susquehanna International Group, a major player in asset management, made a substantial investment in bitcoin through various ETFs.
Data released by the Securities Commission on May 7th shows that in the first quarter of 2024, Susquehanna held approximately $1.2 billion in spot bitcoin ETFs. What makes this investment exceptional is not only its volume but also its distribution. The company evenly divided its investment across ten different ETFs, demonstrating a diversification strategy even within the cryptocurrency segment.
Although $1.2 billion sounds like a huge amount, for Susquehanna, it represents only 0.22% of the total volume of its managed assets, which exceed $575.8 billion.
This step could signal growing confidence of institutional investors in cryptocurrencies, which could have a long-term positive impact on the market and its stability. However, it remains to be seen how bitcoin ETFs will develop in the coming years.
Bitcoin recorded a billion transactions
On Sunday, May 5th, the one-billionth transaction was recorded in block number 842 241. This historic moment occurred exactly fifteen years, four months, and four days after Satoshi Nakamoto mined the first block in the bitcoin network.
During its 5603 days of existence, the Bitcoin network has processed an average of 178,475 transactions per day. However, these figures do not include activities on the Lightning Network, which is the second layer of the bitcoin protocol that enables faster transactions. According to data from the River exchange, the Lightning Network processed approximately 6.6 million transactions in August 2023, demonstrating high activity and adoption of this technology since its launch in January 2018.
