From Paraguayan Dams to Global Stability: The 30-Month Evolution of 2Bminer

In October 2023, the media was buzzing with reports of the ambitious expansion of the Czech startup 2Bminer into Paraguay. The vision back then was clear: leverage the surplus energy from the Itaipú hydroelectric dam using state-of-the-art water-cooled miners. Today, in May 2026, we look back on that journey through the lens of experience—lessons that have fundamentally reshaped the face of mining.

We were originally drawn to Paraguay by its exceptionally low energy costs and existing infrastructure. You can get a real sense of what it looked like on the ground in these vlogs from the Kicom (Bitcoin Channel):

Here is a look at how our original plans stack up against today’s reality—a reality that prioritizes security and stability over technological experimentation.

1. Geopolitics: Security Through Global Diversification

  • Then (2023): Early reports painted Paraguay as an energy paradise with "insanely cheap" electricity and ambitions to deploy hundreds of containers.
  • Now (2026): In response to shifts in the legislative landscape and associated risks, we made the strategic decision to phase out our Paraguayan operations early and preemptively. Over the course of 2024 and 2025, we identified potential threats to our clients' hardware within the country. This combination of local instability and infrastructure risks led us to a decisive move: relocating all assets to "safer harbors."
  • The Journey: Article on CzechCrunch
  • Current State: Our expansion continues, but we are no longer tethered to a single nation. Today, we operate data centers across multiple continents. This geographic diversification is the gold standard for securing our clients' investments—it spreads risk and ensures that mining operations are never at the mercy of a single government’s political whims.

2. Technology: Peak Performance vs. Operational Reliability

  • Then (2023): Initial reports touted hydro-containers as the technological pinnacle, especially for hot climates.
  • Now (2026): Our priority has shifted toward maximum uptime and ease of maintenance.
  • Current State: Hydro-cooled machines undoubtedly represent a fascinating path to extreme performance and likely the future of the industry as it scales into massive industrial clusters. These are high-performance machines that push the boundaries of efficiency. However, the reality is that they require a vastly different, high-maintenance infrastructure—one that the global hosting network has yet to fully adopt.
  • Why the Strategy Shift? At 2Bminer, we see hydro-technology as a promising frontier, but for our current operations, we focus on top-tier air-cooled machines. Why? Because they offer incomparable reliability across various environments without the need for complex cooling circuits prone to technical failure. For our customers, this means one thing: certainty.
  • The Result: Our goal is 100% uptime—ensuring machines mine 24/7 without unnecessary downtime for complex repairs. Today, air-cooled machines are the "workhorses" of stability, allowing us to maintain our high standards without compromising on service.

3. Economics: The New Post-Halving Equilibrium

  • Then (2023): Bitcoin was trading around $27,000, and miners were eyeing the upcoming halving with a touch of nerves.
  • Now (2026): Fewer coins are being issued, but their value is significantly higher. Since our original story, the pivotal April 2024 halving cut block rewards in half. Yet, entering the mining space in 2026 makes even more sense today, as hardware prices (which correlate with the market) are far more rational than they are during the peak of a bull run.
  • Market Logic: A new equilibrium has taken hold. While machines generate a smaller absolute amount of BTC compared to 2023, Bitcoin’s significantly higher market price more than compensates for the decrease in volume.
  • The Verdict: Our clients are now mining a "rarer" but substantially more valuable asset. This combination of higher prices and stable, global infrastructure confirms that mining remains a cornerstone of digital wealth building.

Reflecting with Hindsight

The original 2023 vision was fueled by optimism and technological exploration. However, the last three years have taught us a vital lesson: in Bitcoin mining, the winner isn't the one who takes risks in exotic locations or gambles on overly complex technology during times that demand stability. The winner is the one whose machines run uninterrupted in a secure, diversified environment.

Our proactive exit from Paraguay and our commitment to the reliability of air cooling are hallmarks of our evolution. At 2Bminer, we have matured—moving from a chase for the lowest possible price to a focus on maximum security, diversification, and the highest possible uptime for every one of our customers.
